SPOTLIGHT ON TALENT: JOHN MGBEMENA

Q&A: The Interview with John Mgbemena

Today we meet rising star John Mgbemena. John is a multifaceted Actor, Model, and Artist in Atlanta, GA. He has 7 years of experience within the Entertainment Industry, and currently represented by Click Models of Atlanta. John has appeared in various films, commercials, and runway shows throughout his career. Next Media Source had an opportunity to meet the star and to talk about what is next in the future for his career.

Q: When did you begin your career in Acting, Modeling and Rapping?

A: When I graduated from high school I was an athlete. I played basketball, but I was an extremely timid person. I challenged myself to grow as an individual when I got to College. My freshman year in College was when I began modeling and I didn’t know what to expect at Georgia State University. I did something outside my comfort zone which was a Fashion Show. The success I obtained from modeling; print, magazines, and runway shows allowed my acting and music career to begin in motion. I begin acting next, as I appeared in various films, commercials, and runway shows. After that, I started my music career. Some time later I dropped an album called  “I hate it here” by Caesar. My music is currently on all streaming platforms and with great numbers of listeners.

Q: What city do you currently reside in? And what do you like most about your current city?

A: I reside in Atlanta, Georgia and what I like the most about my city is that it is a Black Mecca. There is an immense amount of opportunities for those who want success, but you just have to be motivated, driven, and confident within yourself. Last but not least, never give up on yourself and your dreams.

Q: How has the entertainment industry made an impact in your life?

A: Tremendously, from the way I carry myself and the way I act. The industry has its highs and lows at times. The industry has made me more confident, charismatic, charming, and lively. Life has been pretty amazing and interesting. I have elevated not only by my personal characteristics, but physically and spiritually as well. “With great success, comes great responsibility.” A quote that I stick by.

Q: What was your experience like signing to your new Model Agency? Congratulations and keep up the great work!

A: Thank you. It was a great experience. Its a sign that I am moving in the right direction, and all of my hard work is paying off. Nonetheless, I am ready for it. I am ready to put the work in, do whatever it takes to be successful, and get more bookings from the agency I am signed to.

Q: Tell me about what you love doing the most in the industry. (Acting, Modeling or Rapping)?

A: Modeling, because it started everything for me. If it wasn’t for modeling, I honestly would not be where I am at today.

Q: Who is your inspiration and why?

A: My parents and brothers are my inspiration because, we all keep each other motivated and inspired to be the best person we can possibly be. We also hold each other very accountable. Without them, I don’t think I would be as motivated as I am today.

Q: What do you enjoy in your free time?

A: Working out, traveling, reading, being active, or watching a documentary. I enjoy learning and stimulating my mind, body, and soul during my free time.

Q: What is next for you in your career that our readers can look forward to?

A: More elevation and growth. By the grace of God, you will see me in more films, commercials, modeling campaigns, and more. I will also be making more music as well. My brother Emandagawd got new music on the way coming this summer. Stay tuned for that. I also got major things in the works as well. I may drop some new music also. God has been blessing me very much and I am very grateful. I pray for more success in my life as a whole, from financially, spiritually, to even physically.

SPOTLIGHT ON ACTRESS: LIANNE AWAH

Q&A: The Interview with Lianne Awah

Today we meet the rising star Lianne Awah. Lianne is an Actress in the Entertainment Industry based in New York City. She has casted for a variety of plays along with Indie Films for roles. She is currently represented by Dream Maker Talent. Next Media Source had an opportunity to meet the Actress and to learn more about her upcoming Film Project "The Girl Who Loved to Laugh."

Q: When did you begin your career in Acting?

A: I first started my career in acting in 2020 after realizing that Pre-Med was not for me. I acted as a child, but then fell into the trap of following a traditional path and thinking that was my only option. I left university, moved to New York for an acting conservatory and never looked back.

Q: What type of Acting experiences have you had in the city where you currently reside?

A: I have done multiple plays and indie films and have absolutely loved the learning experience. Being an actor in NYC has taught me to dive deep into the craft and my work ethic has skyrocketed since living here. I was also taught to be okay with being outside my comfort zone and adapting to change quickly.

Q: How has the Acting industry impacted your life?

A: The acting industry has helped me so much with my mental health. Acting is one of the very few things that fulfills my soul and I truly cannot live without it. It gives life more meaning for me and I love being able to tell stories and get deep messages across.

Q: Tell me about your upcoming Film! And what was the process like casting for the project?

A: This film is about a woman dealing with depression and coming to accept and fight it. I was cast from a self tape on my acting profile and the director saw my connection and authenticity to the character and selected me for the role. I am super excited about this role because it is a full circle moment for me. I remember struggling with depression only a year ago thinking there was no way out and it was never going to end. Now I am in a great place and get to play a role that will help others find hope.

Q: Who is your character in the Film? And how have you prepare for your role?

A: I am the lead, who is going through depression. I am currently preparing for the role by diving into the meaning behind depression, and also going back into my own past experiences with depression and anxiety. I am working closely with the director Melvin James, as well as the amazing coaches at Dream Lab Studio.

Q: What do you love most about Acting?

A: Acting can be very therapeutic and healing. I love being able to use life experiences that are dark and turn them into something that others can relate to, and help them realize that they are not alone in what they are feeling.

Q: Who is your inspiration and why?

A: My inspiration is my dad who was born in a small village in Ghana. He managed to become very successful in America against all odds. He taught me that with hard work and belief in a bigger future, truly anything is possible.

Q: When you're not Acting in Film projects, what do you enjoy in your free time?

A: I love fitness classes, especially boxing. I also love fashion and thrifting!

SPOTLIGHT ON ACTOR: JON MEGGISON

Q&A: The Interview with Jon Meggison

Today we recognize Actor Jon Meggison who is a rising star in the entertainment industry. Jon has been given great opportunities based in Seattle, WA to further his acting career. He has worked hard within the last 2 years, and recently signed to Eris Talent Agency. Next Media Source had an opportunity to sit down to talk with the Actor about his recent film project "A Haunting in Raven Wood" and learn more about him.

Q: When did you begin your career in Acting?

A: I started my acting career in January 2020 in the middle of the Pandemic. I started off making YouTube videos in my bathroom and self submitting them to Filmmakers in my area. I would do monologues and movie scenes. Anything really to get myself use to being on camera.

Q: What city do you currently reside in? And how competitive is the Acting industry there?

A: So I am currently in Seattle, WA. I’ve been to LA and have friends in other cities and just from what I have experienced and seen it’s not that competitive at all if I’m being truthful. Seattle is a great place for film but here people do it more for the fun compared to let's say New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, to where everyone is trying to go somewhere and do it at the highest level.

Q: How has the Acting industry impacted your life?

A: The acting industry has impacted my life in every positive way possible not just professionally but personally. Growing up as a kid I’ve never been able to travel because we couldn’t afford to. And now since I’ve been in this industry, I’ve been fortunate enough to do that. I’ve been to Florida where I did my first union project, Los Angeles where I did my first showcase, and later this year I’ll be traveling to New Jersey for a pilot that’s going to be on Amazon Prime video. This industry has opened many doors for me, allowing me to connect with others around the world and make friends from all over. I’m most grateful. It’s changed my outlook on life and showed me that I can do this and there is more to life than what it was before.

Q: What was the experience like signing with your new Talent Agency? Congratulations on your hard work!

A: That’s a really great question. 2 years ago when I was in Los Angeles I met Rebecca Ek from Eris Talent for possible representation. I went to this event called IMTA with my agents here in Seattle, (Seattle Talent) which is ran and owned by Hank Ritter. It’s an Actors Showcase where talent goes out to perform in front of the top agents, and managers from all over. And I had only been in the industry not even a month going to this; so at the time I had no idea what I was doing. But I knew I had to just do it and after the event she wanted to meet and we did. But she could obviously tell I didn’t know what I was doing. She told me I wasn’t ready yet. When I got back to Seattle, I started to really dig into my craft, you know learning the industry, discovering who I was as an actor, learning how to self-tape, and working with Seattle local Filmmakers to get myself on set. I was doing a lot of Short Films, Indie features, etc. Then 2 years later we reconnected and she signed me. From 2020 to 2022 I put in a lot of work and was able to work with a lot of great talent, along with big names in the industry. During the 2 years span I would send Rebecca emails every 3-5 months with no response back. And then, last week she sent me an email wanting to meet with me. We had the meeting and she ended up signing me in Los Angeles, New York and ATL. I would have to say my experience was great. I learned that what she told me wasn’t a “No” but just a "Not Right Now", so I did the work and now I’m here

Q: What was the process like casting for your most recent Film Project?

A: My most recent project is "A Haunting in Raven Wood". You can stream it now on Amazon Prime Video. The process for that project was actually the easiest I’ve had. Fortunately, for myself here in the Seattle market I have made a lot of connections, built a resume, done a lot work, and built a reputation for my hard work that I put in everyday. The director actually contacted me directly and asked if I wanted the lead role in it. This was my first feature and first lead role, so I was definitely going to say yes. The casting process for it was pretty simple. He sent me the script, wanted me to read it, and if I liked it the part was mine. We have connected in the past and we’ve seen each other on a few sets, but never actually spoke. It’s funny because my very first project he was part of but we never met because of call times.

Q: Tell me about how you prepare for your roles once you are cast?

A: My preparation stays the same each time. I get a script and I’ll read it beginning to end 2-3 times. After that I’ll read it from my characters perspective and feel him out see what he’s about. Once I have an understanding of my character, then I’ll read it from the other characters point of view, and see what their connection is to him and how they feel about him. Once I have that done, then I start to break my character down and find our connections, where we relate and where we don’t; know just finding that balance. Then I live my life through his eyes from the 1st day we shoot, until the last day the director says "that’s a wrap".

Q: What do you love most about Acting?

A: The one thing I love the most about this industry is the feeling it gives me.  I get this adrenaline every time I'm on set. I love how I can just be in the moment and being free. There’s no right or wrong, allowing me to explore my creativity and discovering things about myself I never knew, and making choices and decisions while working with different actors and actresses. I never experienced a feeling like this until I got in this industry.

Q: Who is your inspiration and why?

A: My inspiration has always been my mother. I grew up in a single parent household. My mom raised me and my 2 sisters by herself sacrificing everything. She showed me what hard work looks like and to never give up no matter what. She showed me what the hustle and grind looks like. When things get hard, I just look back at what my mom did for us, and remember it really isn’t compared to what she had to go through for us.

Q: When you're not Acting in Film Projects, what do you enjoy in your free time?

A: When I am not acting, my free time consists of being with my 3 boys at home, searching for new projects or hanging out my family.

Q: Who is your inspiration and why?

A: My inspiration I would say, one of them would be Lebron James, just how he goes out there and plays basketball and knows where to go and where the other defense goes. I would also say umm, Russell Westbrook as well because he goes out there and plays 100% every time.

Q: When you're not playing Basketball, what do you enjoy in your free time?
