Today we meet the rising star Lianne Awah. Lianne is an Actress in the Entertainment Industry based in New York City. She has casted for a variety of plays along with Indie Films for roles. She is currently represented by Dream Maker Talent. Next Media Source had an opportunity to meet the Actress and to learn more about her upcoming Film Project "The Girl Who Loved to Laugh."
Q: When did you begin your career in Acting?
A: I first started my career in acting in 2020 after realizing that Pre-Med was not for me. I acted as a child, but then fell into the trap of following a traditional path and thinking that was my only option. I left university, moved to New York for an acting conservatory and never looked back.
Q: What type of Acting experiences have you had in the city where you currently reside?
A: I have done multiple plays and indie films and have absolutely loved the learning experience. Being an actor in NYC has taught me to dive deep into the craft and my work ethic has skyrocketed since living here. I was also taught to be okay with being outside my comfort zone and adapting to change quickly.
Q: How has the Acting industry impacted your life?
A: The acting industry has helped me so much with my mental health. Acting is one of the very few things that fulfills my soul and I truly cannot live without it. It gives life more meaning for me and I love being able to tell stories and get deep messages across.
Q: Tell me about your upcoming Film! And what was the process like casting for the project?
A: This film is about a woman dealing with depression and coming to accept and fight it. I was cast from a self tape on my acting profile and the director saw my connection and authenticity to the character and selected me for the role. I am super excited about this role because it is a full circle moment for me. I remember struggling with depression only a year ago thinking there was no way out and it was never going to end. Now I am in a great place and get to play a role that will help others find hope.
Q: Who is your character in the Film? And how have you prepare for your role?
A: I am the lead, who is going through depression. I am currently preparing for the role by diving into the meaning behind depression, and also going back into my own past experiences with depression and anxiety. I am working closely with the director Melvin James, as well as the amazing coaches at Dream Lab Studio.
Q: What do you love most about Acting?
A: Acting can be very therapeutic and healing. I love being able to use life experiences that are dark and turn them into something that others can relate to, and help them realize that they are not alone in what they are feeling.
Q: Who is your inspiration and why?
A: My inspiration is my dad who was born in a small village in Ghana. He managed to become very successful in America against all odds. He taught me that with hard work and belief in a bigger future, truly anything is possible.
Q: When you're not Acting in Film projects, what do you enjoy in your free time?
A: I love fitness classes, especially boxing. I also love fashion and thrifting!
